The bust of Nicolae B\u0103lcescu<\/strong> is made in marble by the sculptor Constantin Baraschi. Placed in 1943, it is one of the twelve busts in the Writers’ Rotunda in Ci\u0219migiu Garden. Nicolae B\u0103lcescu is presented old and thoughtful, although he died young, at 33 years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who was Nicolae B\u0103lcescu?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Nicolae B\u0103lcescu <\/strong>(1819 \u2013 1852) was a Romanian historian, writer and revolutionary, participant in the Revolution of 1848. B\u0103lcescu’s work, elaborated in less than 9 years, includes social history studies, historical biographies, political and occasional articles and the imposing monograph “Romanians under Mihai Voivode Viteazul<\/em>“.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The history of the Romanians under Mihai Voivod Viteazul<\/em> is the work that proves B\u0103lcescu’s qualities as a historian and talented writer. Nicolae B\u0103lcescu portrays the great ruler as a symbol of the ideas of freedom and national unity of Romanians everywhere and at all times. Because, for B\u0103lcescu, history is “the holy book where the glory of Romania is written”<\/em>, and Mihai Viteazul is “the most famous and greatest of the Romanian governors”<\/em> and the years of his reign – “the richest in brave deeds, in wonderful examples of sacrifices for the country”.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
