The bust of Vasile Alecsandri is made in marble by the sculptor Theodor Burc\u0103. Placed in 1943, it is one of the twelve busts in the Writers’ Rotunda in Ci\u0219migiu Garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who was Vasile Alecsandri?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Nicknamed “The Bard of Mirce\u0219ti”, Vasile Alecsandri (1819 – 1890) was a poet, prose writer, dramatist, folklorist, politician, minister, diplomat, founding member of the Romanian Academy, creator of Romanian theater and dramatic literature in Romania. He is the author of the well-known comedies Ia\u0219ii in Carnaval, Chiri\u021ba in Ia\u0219i <\/em><\/strong>and Chiri\u021ba in the province<\/strong><\/em>, satirical comedies that illustrate the life and customs of Romanian society at that time.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Author of an impressive work, Alecsandri is one of the pioneers of pastel in Romanian literature.\u00a0The poems “Frost”, “Midwinter”, “Spring guests”, “End of autumn”<\/strong><\/em> are representative of this lyrical species, in which nature is presented as a fascinating spectacle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These are just a few examples from Vasile Alecsandri’s vast work. He was a prolific and versatile author, who contributed significantly to the development of Romanian literature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
