The bust of Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu is made in marble by the sculptor Mihail Onofrei. Placed in 1943, it is one of the twelve busts in the Writers’ Round in Ci\u0219migiu Garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other works by Mihail Onofrei, in Bucharest: the “Mother Smara” monument in Ci\u0219migiu park, the Bust of Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu (bronze) in the garden in front of the Mihai Vod\u0103 Monastery church.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Who was Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu (1838 – 1907) was a poet, prose writer, playwright, journalist, essayist, jurist, historian, folklorist, philologist, linguist, philosopher and architect, “a genius of a frightening vastness”, as Mircea Eliade called him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hasdeu is part of the gallery of illustrious encyclopedic spirits of the Romanian nation, along with Dimitrie Cantemir, Ion Heliade R\u0103dulescu, Nicolae Iorga, George C\u0103linescu or Mircea Eliade, being one of the greatest personalities of Romanian culture of all time.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Among Hasdeu’s writings, we mention: the study “Words from the elders”, the poem “Moldovan Folk Song”, the short story “Mistress Mamuca”, the drama “The late prefect” (1862), the short story “Little girl” (1864) and the historical drama “R\u0103zvan and Vidra” .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
