Despre monument
Bustul lui George Coșbuc este lucrat în marmură de către sculptorul Ioan Gr. Popovici. Amplasat în 1943, este unul dintre cele douăsprezece busturi din Rondul Roman (Rotonda scriitorilor) din Grădina Cișmigiu.
O altă lucrare a lui Ioan Gr. Popovici este statuia lui Papinian (Aemilius Paulus Papinianus) din fața Facultății de Drept a Universității București.
About the monument
The bust of George Coșbuc is made in marble by the sculptor Ioan Gr. Popovici. Placed in 1943, it is one of the twelve busts in the Rondul Roman (Writers’ Rotunda) in Cișmigiu Garden.
Another work of Ioan Gr. Popovici is the statue of Papinian (Aemilius Paulus Papinianus) in front of the Faculty of Law of the University of Bucharest.
Despre personalitatea reprezentată
George Coşbuc, poet şi traducător, a crescut cu poveştile spuse de mama sa şi de alţi oameni de la ţară .
Astfel, s-a îndrăgostit nu numai de literatură, ci şi de folclorul românesc şi şi-a găsit inspiraţia pentru cele mai cunoscute poezii ale sale: ”Nunta Zamfirei”, ”Mama”, ”Numai una”, ”Trei, Doamne, şi toţi trei”, ”El Zorab”, ”Duşmancele”, ”Noi vrem pământ!”, ”Iarna pe uliţă” sau ”La oglindă”, evidențiind partea solară, idilică, a sufletului țăranului român.
A tradus opere remarcabile ce aparțin literaturii universale, adaptând prin localizare la mediul țărănesc „Eneida” și „Odiseea”.
About the personality represented
George Coşbuc, poet and translator, grew up with the stories told by his mother and other people from the country.
Thus, he fell in love not only with literature, but also with Romanian folklore and found inspiration for his most famous poems: “Zamfirei’s Wedding”, “Mama”, “Numai una”, ” Three, God, and all three”, “El Zorab”, “The Enemy”, “We want land!”, “Winter on the street” or “In the mirror”, highlighting the solar side , idyllic, of the soul of the Romanian peasant.
He translated remarkable works that belong to universal literature, adapting “Aeneid” and “Odyssey” to the peasant environment through localization.
