Despre monument
Bustul lui Ion Luca Caragiale este lucrat în marmură de către sculptorul Oscar Späthe. Amplasat în 1943, este unul dintre cele douăsprezece busturi din Rondul Roman (Rotonda scriitorilor) din Grădina Cișmigiu.
Bustul lui Ion Luca Caragiale este singurul din componența sculpturilor care alcătuiesc „Rotonda Scriitorilor” realizat din semi-profil, cu privirea ațintită în sus. Totodată, este singura personalitate reprezentată cu capul acoperit: este vorba de celebra căciulă (fes) din blană de oaie – ipostază în care apare și în fotografii.
About the monument
The bust of Ion Luca Caragiale is made in marble by the sculptor Oscar Späthe. Placed in 1943, it is one of the twelve busts in the Rondul Roman (Writers’ Rotunda) in Cișmigiu Garden.
The bust of Ion Luca Caragiale is the only one among the sculptures that make up the “Writers’ Rotunda” made in semi-profile, looking up. At the same time, it is the only personality represented with a covered head: it is the famous hat (fes) made of sheep fur – a pose in which it also appears in photographs.
Despre personalitatea reprezentată
Ion Luca Caragiale este unul dintre Marii Clasici ai literaturii române. Creaţia lui cuprinde piese de teatru, schiţe, nuvele, majoritatea satirizând lumea Capitalei sau provinciei de la sfârşitul secolului al XIX-lea şi începutul secolului al XX-lea.
S-a remarcat cu predilecţie în dramaturgie, prin originalele comedii de moravuri ”o scrisoare pierdută” (1884), “O noapte furtunoasă” (1878), “Conul Leonida faţă cu Reacţiunea” (1880), “D-ale carnavalului” (1885); sau drama “Năpasta” (1890). Piesele sale de teatru sunt memorabile, fiind puse în scenă de nenumărate ori, la toate teatrele din ţară, unele fiind şi ecranizate.
Creator al schiţei în literatura română, Caragiale a scris: “Domnul Goe”, “Vizită”, “Bubico”, “Tren de plăcere”, “Petiţiune”, “Căldură mare”, “Un pedagog de şcoală nouă”, “Ultima oră”, “Inspecţiune”, “High-life”, “Telegrame”, “Justiţie” etc.
About the personality represented
Ion Luca Caragiale is one of the Great Classics of Romanian literature. His creation includes plays, sketches, short stories, most of them satirizing the world of the Capital or the province from the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
He distinguished himself with a predilection for dramaturgy, through the original comedies of morals “a lost letter” (1884), “A stormy night” (1878), “Conul Leonidas face cu Reacțiunea” (1880), “D-ale carnival” (1885) ; or the drama “Năpasta” (1890). His plays are memorable, being staged countless times, at all the theaters in the country, some of them being screened.
Creator of the draft in Romanian literature, Caragiale wrote: “Mr. Goe”, “Visit”, “Bubico”, “Tren de pleasure”, “Petition”, “Mare heat”, “A new school pedagogue”, “Last hour “, “Inspection”, “High-life”, “Telegrams”, “Justice”, etc.
